<HTML>Does anyone else find this statistic extremely distressing?
------

I certainly do not.

The morality of war (if you wish to have a moral discussion) depends entirely on its ends and the minimalization of the harm done to achieve those ends.

Minimization of harm is not synonimous with "do no harm."

Again I use the example of French citizens who were killed by Allied bombs during the invasion of Normandy. In fact, many French cities were practically wiped off the map in support of the advancement of troops from the beach heads.

The world stands on the brink of Nuclear anihilation by mad men. If we do not turn it from its current course, the death toll will be counted in the millions and the disaster may literally lead to the end of civilization as we know it. This threat must be eliminated -- by any means nesissary.

The fall of Rome plunged the world into a dark age that lasted a thousand years. The Barbarians are now at the gates of the new Rome. Should it fall, we may never see the light again.
