I love the words to the Star Spangled Banner .... but I do wish there weren't <i>quite </i> so many high notes ....
I think a large reason for what you say is because America is the great "melting pot" ... although I have also heard us refered to as a tossed salad! ~lol~ .....
I hope that those of you who didn't suffer through 3rd grade civics classes in the US understand the difference in those two dishes....
The point being ... even though we are all Americans ... we are also Irish Americans ... and African Americans .... and Polish Americans ... and Arab Americans .... I could go on .. but you get the idea .... and we all bring that other side of us into the discussion ..... for example ... even though my people have been on these shores for a quite some time before the war of Independence I still think of myself as Irish American ....
What a diversity of ideas!
