I'm sorry, but the wider point stands. Bin Laden is a product of events that have taken place over the past fifty years all across the world. Its simply a matter of fact that the foreign policies of a small group of countries, prominent among them the USA, have defined the world in which we live.

The plain fact is that it is the USA alone which will decide how it is going to react to this. But make no mistake, that decision will define the world for the next fifty years. A huge burden of responsibility does lie upon America, not for the actions of fanatics, but for its own actions in response.

Just as the world stood today, united in mourning, so it stands awaiting Americas reply.
