(Translation of abstract):
The Mount Padang archaeological site presents a puzzle: is it a naturally formed terraced platform on a rock or a completely man-made pyramid? To solve this, we conducted geological research in the Gunung Padang area, known for its volcanic rocks. Our approach involved understanding ancient volcanic geology and local volcanism. The area, situated at 800-1200m altitude, is where the Cimandiri and Gede-Cikondang faults intersect. There are six rock units, including volcanic breccia and andesite intrusions. Gunung Padang's andesite intrusion, formed by the latest eruption, created a columnar structure. Over time, the columns weakened, collapsing due to geological processes. People then arranged the rocks into terraced structures for worship, now known as the Mount Megalithic Site Padang.
