<HTML>Hi all -

Claire and I have been kicking around the issue of the oldest repairs to the Sphinx. In the literature I have found Lehner and Hawass making many different statements regarding this issue. As of now, I have found them saying (1) 18th Dyn. done in OK style, (2) New Kingdom using masonry from the causeway, (3) blocks placed during the time of 4th Dyn. construction to cover bad rock, and (4)… which is kinda a permutation of one and three… that 18th Dyn. replaced blocks, placed during 4th Dyn. construction, that had become dislodged over time. Can anyone clear up the issue for me?
