Admittedly, I don't know how the intelligence of ancient capuchin monkeys might compare with the intelligence of present day capuchin monkeys ... However:

capuchin cracking a nut. Admittedly, the animal doesn't appear to succeed in modifying the piece of stone in any way; and, if its ancestors have been doing this for some millennia, why haven't modern capuchins apparently not progressed beyond this initial stage?
