Try your lapidary saw with slats to stabilize the saw blade see if you can produce a good quality lapidary cut i.e. parallel sides without the V-shaped slot Stocks obtained... then do some hand lapping and see if you can produce a mirror finish. Try reducing the grain size of the abrasive in stages from 200 to 3000 mesh as you lap.

At 3000 mesh you should be able to remove surface irregularities above 6 micron or 0.00025".
