And my response was that just because they saw it as a deity doesn't mean they also didn't see it as a star. And I used evidence of Venus ALSO being seen as a deity BUT ALSO being seen as a star. That's evidence that supports my argument that it can be seen as both a deity and a star without contradiction.
I think you are missing the obvious difference between the Sun and other stars: the Sun is only visible during the day. I doubt they would have viewed them as the same thing. I can't think of one ancient culture that deified the Sun that didn't treat it as different from other heavenly bodies.
