Well, a lot of people watched Ed use the machine, and still didn't figure it out.
But, to hear ME explain it... you'd understand it pretty quickly. However, I'm trying to explain it... he was trying to hide it.

Literally, its possible to watch it work, and not understand its working. You can easily camoflauge it with chains and tripods, and people will have no clue you're using it. This is what Ed did. The machine appeared to be an innocuous, uninvolved piece of equipment nearby... because it LOOKED like the chains were doing the work.
In actuality, it was the other way around. The machine was doing the work, and the tripods/chains were the innocuous, uninvolved pieces of equipment.
