Additionally, if you want to get a better understanding of history for the last 6000 years (re: your post below about the Greeks/Herodotus), I would suggest reading Alan Alford's Phoenix Solution and then When The Gods Came Down. His next book Atlantis Solution covers all the Greek Mysteries.
IOW, maybe the above might help you better piece together your understanding of the extant cultural issues surrounding the machine/technology.
