<HTML>Having seen the many different dates proposed for the construction of the sphinx a heavily studied landmark, I wonder (in confusion) at the great variation in dates some are incredibly different. I thought estimating ages of structures was a relatively simple matter give or take a millenium, but with the sphinx there appears to be a some variation in answers.
Could I ask, is this a common problem particularly associated with desert features? Why? Surely ageing over the last 1,000-2,000 years would be a good enough guide (or standard) to use measuring longer periods, no...???
Hope this question doesn't seem too daft, I am new to the scene, as yet I haven't dived in with a Q, feeling daunted as some of you guys and gals seem to know an awful lot, so hope there is room for a complete novice on the topics on this MB.</HTML>
