<HTML>Dating a structure requires that you not only look at the known patterns of weathering, but you must also account for the UNknown patterns, caused by changing weather patterns in geographic areas.

For instance, 7000 years ago, the Giza Plateau was a grassy plain with regular rains. That would CERTAINLY alter the aging of a structure.

Also, you need to look for collateral evidence. Since geology/weathering is somewhat inexact, it is important to cross-reference the numbers with known data... such as, at what time did a culture CAPABLE of carving the sphinx enclosure actually RESIDE in the area?

This is the crux of the problem. Geology may say one thing... anthropology says another.

I hope that was not too simplistic, (and therefore insulting) an answer.
