Riga (Latvia) August 21, 2007:
In the framework of its joint-venture with the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities and the direct supervision of Dr. Zahi Hawass the Latvian Scientific Mission, whom have already worked more than two years in the Step Pyramid of Saqqara (Egypt) using ground penetrating radar, have obtained results that have exceeded all expectations.
A new descending corridor starting from the ‘dry moat’* and reaching the 3rd gallery that was discovered by GPR investigations have undoubtedly provided to Egyptologists an interesting and surprising fact which will require from them further studies.

Around the pyramid complex of Djoser there exists a very large trench the so-called Great Trench that surrounds the complex measures approximately 40m wide and “is the largest structure of its kind in the Memphis necropolis” (Verner 2001). There is a slight disjoint along the southern perimeter, presumably the passage past the trench.
(waters parted from waters by a road way make me think of Snefru and the ‘green jewel')

If the moat was dry it is may because it drained into, or near the burial chamber, making it a most unlikely eternal resting place for a desiccated cadaver.
Is this passage another Saite Period intrusive burial or robber passage home-spun Egyptology seems rather partial to the Persians.
