<HTML>There have been theories put forth that agriculture was also a byproduct of the creation of a supported class of citizens... namely, a religious elite that were not expected to forage for themselves.
It is known that an agricutural subsistence system requires approximately eight hours of effort per day for the head of household, while a hunter/gatherer subsistence requires only three hours.
There really are few reasonable explanations for why MORE effort would be adopted over LESS effort, unless there was an overriding motivation... such as a religious sect, or a strong political class, that mandated THEY be served their food, rather than catch it themselves.
