Yes. I can't give you a citation but I seem to recall reading about such a
boat, probably Inuit, containing two dead men who Columbus identified as 'asians'
so supporting his contention the world wasn't as big as they said.

While he was wrong about that it must be acknowledged in all fairness he had
good reason to believe there *was* land within sailing range on the Atlantic.
I don't know if he can be blamed for not imagining it could be a whole new continent.
