However, there seems to be a certain lack of objectivity on the part of
people involved given the way that having a pyramid in Bosnia will feed
national pride and people pocket books. When science takes a back seat
to economic development and nationalism, the potential for junk
science, even when well meaning people are involved, becomes a serious
concern. This can be seen in:
Bosnian Town Hopes to Cash in on Pyramid
MSNBC, By AIDA CERKEZ-ROBINSON, April 11, 2006, [
www.msnbc.msn.com]
For example, the article stated:
""Our expectation are high. This could be our oil well,"
Vehab Halilovic, who has started carving pyramids on
wooden souvenirs like flutes and pipes."
and
"The possibility that the hills are not ancient pyramids is
not even considered in Visoko.
"The question whether there is a pyramid or not is not
being asked," Senad Hodovic, director of the local museum.
"People here believe there is one, are excited about it.""
In the other article, a German couple stated:
"For once one can see Bosnia being mentioned in media in a
positive light,..."
This is similar to the hope on some Bosnians part that the "pyramids"
will rehabilitate their country's image. Unfortunatly, if people are
not careful with the hype, wishful thinking, and their imaginations,
they might just find themselves making a joke out of Bosnia instead.
The highly exaggerated, and quite false, claim that the alleged pyramid
is "perfectly shaped, 45-degree slopes pointing toward the cardinal
points and a flat top.." suggest to me that wishful thinking, nationalism,
and wish to develop the local economy is already distorting the facts to
fit preconcieved notions of what this feature actually is.
There is an interesting diagram in " Re: Stranger Than Fiction ..."
at [

It should be interesting to see what comes of all of the digging that
is being conducted about it.
