I was just curious on what some on this board consider the threshold of becoming human. Is it walking ? Is it talking ? Is it using tools ? The reason I ask is that the actual intelligence of a 1 year old child is very low however it's potential is exceedingly high and is capable of learning almost anything. I am just curious when all of you think we obtained the ability to reach this threshold. Was it a gradual process or was it simply a genetic fluke that happened very quickly, say in one generation. Could there simply be a single "intelligence gene" that is the cause of this gift we have. Or do some believe that through "evolution" we gradually grew up from "one year old" to where we now think we are now. I am also very curious where some of you feel Cro-Magnon man fits into all of this. Have we degenerated from them or have they simply vanished. Finally I wonder how some of you see this first spark of intelligence and what may have caused it.
We here a lot about the "dawning of man" but what exactly makes a "Man" ? I am also very curious where you see the distinction between "primate" and "Man" and what do you see as the line, in relation to "intelligence", between them.
