<HTML>Hi Don:
Censorship has probably been around since the human being began to develop grey matter between its ears. Without it, it is unlikely any of us would be around to discuss it.
When I was a child my parents were constantly censoring my utterances. When I got married, 37 years ago, my wife took over the sysiphian task of modefying my speech. Neither my parents nor my wife ever succeeded completely. But, as my wife says, censorship is not so much about shutting somebody up as it is about making unbearable behaviour bearable.
To be honest, I have been cesored in some the best and worst bars in North America. One time in particular, I remember, I stopped in for a quick one in a bar in a small logging town. By the by , a rather tall and ugly gentleman came in and sat down on the stool next to mine. One drink led to another, and I ended up telling the gentleman, a muscular crane operator about 110 lbs. heavier than myself, how I surmised his countenance.
The crane operator censored me by throwing me across three, drink loaded tables, in the general direction of the exit sign. It eventually became necessary for me to duck behind a heavy, metal screen, meant to protect the band only, to avoid the flying glasses and beer bottles thrown by the angry patrons whose drinks I had destoyed, and who had joined the crane operator in censoring. Indeed, there are many forms of censorship.
