In the past various acoustical phenomena have been reported at Chichen Itza including:.
1) The Great ballcourt has long been considered a "whispering gallery .

2) Pyramid of Kukulkan (El Castillo) is noted for:
a) A chirped quetzal like echo in response to a handclap in front of the staircases

b) " an observer seated on the lowest step of the pyramid hears the sound of raindrops falling in a filled bucket instead of footstep sounds when people, situated higher up the pyramid, climb the stairs" ©2004 Acoustical Society of America. It should be noted that directly above the stairs is a
"mask of the rain god Chac"

and (Drum roll!) one that has not been reported until now:
3) In 2002 at Chichen Itza I assisted David Lubman (see above 2 "a") with field sound recordings by providing noise i.e.. hand claps, talking, shouting etc. Interestingly a handclap in front of the staircase at the Temple of the Warriors produces a dual component echo, a quetzal like chirp (similar to the one from El Castillo) from the steps, followed by a rattlesnake like ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz sound reflection from the hundreds of columns:

"The conspicuous part of the entrance to the upper temple are two serpentine columns sculpted in the form of the feathered serpent, whose bases are the heads and crowns are the tails of rattlesnakes."

Could it be that this structure was designed to "gave voice" to those feathered serpents
