So, er, what exactly folded these 1,000+ foot thick layers of wet sediments? And how? And why? Wouldn't they just have splattered all over the place instead of forming mountains? And when did the sediments become metamorphised? Before or after they dried out?

A slow, geological process that fits observations, or a sudden, recent, event explicable only through divine intervention? Guess which I think the more likely
