Yes and in this case the light of science in fact shows there is nothing behind that wall.
At the same time the light is showing that Nefertiti is in fact in the Cairo Museum. That's what the DNA says.
There is nothing to gain from the ministry's approach in the long term, but in the short time they are getting global hype. In fact I reckon the ministry probably believe what they

Thanks. Just a heads up on this story. In fact there is most likely nothing there and no voids are confirmed. Although not involved with this work, I have info from several people who have experience with GPR including in the Valley of the Kings, and the view is that these scans do not support the conclusions being announced, and that the rock in the valley makes interpretation of this type diffi

The spin in this article confuses the situation even further,
Let's get this clear, the Egyptian tourist minister DID claim this, which is why there was a plethora of new articles reporting this incorrect information.
It was not just a mistake, it was just a more extreme version of the constant spin and hype that the Egyptian ministries have been engaged in because they think it will e

What on earth.. I can't even tell who said what from this article.
Did Watanabe say this: “I think, from my reading of the given radar data, it is not that big and it would be only a hole."
Thanks for posting this. I wouldn't expect anymore big global headlines any time soon as the Egyptian parliamentary election is over for now.

Staying away from the tarpit, however, if anyone else can't, then Marianne Luban's new book shows that KV35YL is Nefertiti. That book is the real Tut story this season.

Jacobovici won his case for defamation against the ex Israeli Antiquities Authority curator Joe Zias who had been attacking him online and elsewhere for years.
This follows on the heels of the court case where the James Ossuary was not shown to have been forged.

There is indeed a form of Horus that has bull's horns protruding

It most likely didn't personally belong to Baka. It only comes from during his reign. This excavation has been incorrectly reported in the media. The excavators seem not to have ever claimed it was this pharaoh's tomb, only that they found a serekh dating to his reign in the tomb.
Pharaoh Baka of the Third Dynasty was probably buried in the Layer Pyramid at Zawyat el-Aryan.

That's quite correct Byrd. The niches represented in stone (interiors and exteriors) were originally skeuomorphs, i.e. stone versions of the colorful cloths that adorned the pharaohs buildings and elite tombs. The typical version of the 'false door' evolved out of that feature and form (see below). In these new tombs, however, the artists seem to have hybridized the false door form

Yes it is unusual.
And yes there is relationship with the niches of the palace facades, but I think here there is definitely reference to granaries. See also the mounds of grain under the false doors. I wonder if this is an indication of increasing famine at the time, similar to the scenes of starving refugees found near the Unas causeway etc.

I think the jury is still very much out on this one. I don't think his evidence seems very convincing. It is possible that it was 'retouched' before being put on display, as was common for artifacts in the 19th century. Agamemnon's mask in the Athens Archaeological Museum being a well known case.

I've not been able to contact Andy, however, Franck Monnier was very impressed by Andy's solution and has said that it needs to be taken into consideration.
I was also impressed by his analysis and I think it should be published in an Egyptology journal for future reference.

Hi.
Does anyone perchance know how to contact Andy Connor?
He provided a super analysis of the Saqqara Arch Ostracon back in 2004 and discussed it here in 2010 too. His old email is no longer working.
Franck Monnier, a French scholar has recently published a rather useful article in GE on the Egyptian arch construction methods.
His analysis, however, is not as advanced as Andy

I am interested to see what the Maatians think of this paper? I know what I think of its contetnt, but I wonder what people think of the wider issue, that this is published in a journal apparently associated with people in universities all over the world... This is not a peer reviewed journal. Does that mean they should allow anything in? Surely there is a limit that professionals need to be awar

There are two parts to the logic here.
1. The Egyptians did not use north as up on maps.
This is historical fact.
2. The orientation of the giza three offset on the ground, as seen looking down to the south, matched/matches what was/is visible in the sky with respect to the directions of the offset of the belt stars of Orion.
This IS scientific fact. That is to say that the argument

Good article overall, but unfortunately number 9 is wrong. The old 'Kruppside Down' argument supposedly 'debunking' the 'Orion Theory' was a flaw on Krupp's part, as he did not understand that the Egyptians did not use maps with north as 'up'.
That specific point is not an issue that's up for discussion; it's self evident scientific fact.

I recalled that I read a theory that there was a second pharaoh known as Amasis around the time of Amasis 'II'. So three in all.

This book effectively summarises the significance of the pyramid structures to the Ancient Egyptians. This book is also the best summary of the overall intellectual context in which the Great Pyramid of Giza has found itself.

Firstly, Petrie already fully discussed the issue of determining the position of the lowest levels of finishing around Menkaure's Pyramid base. What Dash is re-discussing is not news.

It was certainly not news to Petrie.

OK, I understand better now what you have read and can clarify the situation.
What Dash is talking about in the AERA article is how accurately the pyramids as a whole group were located on existing map bases - for example on 'Survey of Egypt' maps of Egypt, and by extension on the global surface. That had not been done very accurately, no better than 20m he says. With modern GPS tha
