Cotton made it without human intervention.by Katherine Reece - Ancient History
Personally, to me, it shows that the sweet potato made it there without human intervention. Nothing else exchanged, only one food, nothing from the Polynesians came to South America. It just doesn't work that way!by Katherine Reece - Ancient History

The Coosa is a lot different today. It's has dams and lakes. There is some interesting information in a Chilton Co history book on some items that were found along the river after a 1906 flood. It doesn't say what happened to them though... I'm going to dig through the 1906 newspapers and see if I can find it.by Katherine Reece - Ancient History
Living in Alabama I've always been very interested in the De Soto expeditions. I live about 15 minutes away from the Coosa river (written as Cuza or cusa by the expedition) which is the river used to enter Alabama and he floated on it from the Georgia line, past my house, on down to where the Tallapoosa River joins it and they become the Alabama River which is where things started to turn nby Katherine Reece - Ancient History

So far everything I've read on local history is saying Creek. But her family may have moved her as the Native Americans got pushed off their traditional lands If you do genealogy I'd be happy to look up your great grandmother or other family members at the local genealogy library. We have the local newspapers on film going back to 1877.by Katherine Reece - Ancient History
Creeks were in this area... I do know that. What's seriously cool is the Native American name meant Old Peachtree Town and this area is famous today for peaches. While other states may produce more peaches our are widely regarded as the best tasting.by Katherine Reece - Ancient History

I was reading a small locally produced book that's got some age of it.... Chilton County and Her People. It's not referenced unfortunately, and there's a mention that reads...."According to OuDeCheney's map of 1734, the Indian town of Pocanatchie..." but I can't find anything on this map. Okay............. off the top of my head There are some mounds in the northern section of our county that are most likely small villages in the under the influence of Moundville. That is if they are Mississippian, I'm hoping to now get an archaeologist from the University of Alabama to at least walk around and look at some of them. DeSoto skirted our area ~argh~ skirted!
