"But we have to admit that a collision with a body only a few miles across would be disastrous for humanity, and we might not cope any better than the dinosaurs did. Disturbingly, in spite of efforts to detect just this sort of threat, several of the recent near misses were detected only when they had already passed by the Earth."
As indicated, that was a quote from a book by Patric

Surely some probability related to time frame should be stated.

Technically "The mix of particles is thought to be the result of an extraterrestrial object, such as a comet or meteorite, exploding in the earth's atmosphere" does not a meteorite have to reach the surface, as opposed to a meteor, etc., OK nit picking but accuracy is important. Well, how do you classify Tunguska phenomenon?

Pray tell us how to choose your ancestors?
A facetious statement deserves a facetious question.
Did you choose your ancestors well, and if so (or not) HOW?
Let's have some sense please.

"I am saying that there is not a "consensus", so it can not be known for certain. Hawkins was not the only one to consider it an astronomical/religious calender. To me, calling it "hanging" stones borders on the nonsensical, based upon the context."
Are we not in total agreement? I believe there is some case for astronomical alignments but not so many as some sugg

As I see it, there are two parts to your reply. First "I don't know" OK
Second, a complete change of subject? I am trying to be factual, not critical.
I believe it is generally recognized that there are astronomical alignments though perhaps not on the scale that Hawkins suggested.

"Am I missing something here? Can not someone have carved something yesterday on a meteorite which landed 15,000 years ago?
Is there some suggestion that the carving is ancient?"
If the suggestion is that it was cast or otherwise crafted 15,000 years ago, then I am out of here.

Then can we agree that 'henge' as described above has little (or nothing) to do with Stonehenge, whether the stones are 'hanging' or 'henging'?

I am sorry. Do you mean 'hang' stone, rather than hanging stone?
I fail to follow your drift. Mea culpa, no doubt.

Give the genes some potential difference to respond to and they will throw out variations, those best suited will survive. Well, its not quite that simple, but it will do for a start.

"When is a henge not a henge? - when it’s Stonehenge."
As this is one of my specialist interests I hope the following might be enlightening:
"The final group of monuments to be considered is something of (a) catch-all category of ceremonoial structures and enclosures belonging to the later neolithic. The most extensively researched of these are the so-called 'henges'

You may believe that there were none but you CANNOT SAY THAT there were none when such might have been destroyed by interested parties or simply lost.

The language - gene connection is well advanced in the reference I quoted elsewhere (Magic Universe) - . For example:
'Support for the general idea that languages spread and changed as people moved about, whether peaceably or aggressively came from genetics. Luca Cavilla-Sforza of Stanford with collegues in Italy, used blood samples to chart the similarities and differences between supposed

Easier said than done I guess, but surely this is only one factor of many.
I could quote you many examples of vast differences in age at death from the same parent.
Perhaps I phrased the title badly. What I had in mind was not so much the health issue as the psychological motif. That is, keeping an active brain rather than slimming (which of course is also important where relevant).
