A new theory:

In 1859 John Taylor proposed that the internal volume of the Coffer in the Great Pyramid was a standard of capacity from which the British standard for the measurement of corn had originated. Taylor published his theory after many years research, and his book was republished by Cambridge University Press in 2014 as a work of historical interest.

This was a conundrum which turned on the coincidence between the volume in English inches of the Chaldron in the Great Charter of Henry III (AD 1225) and the internal volume of the sarcophagus which John Greaves had measured c.1639. It is proposed that Taylor’s model invites us to think in three dimensions so that the sarcophagus is a model of a sphere which invites contemplation of the pyramid itself as the volume of a sphere.

The sun rose from the earth at the dawn of creation in Egyptian mythology so the design of Khufu’s pyramid appears to represent the sun. And the model sphere latent in the sarcophagus then appears to represent Khufu’s celestial destiny with the sun god in ancient belief.

Taylor’s model has a new conundrum because his numbers make it appear that the Great Charter was based on knowledge of the Great Pyramid including the height of pyramid as 280 cubits, but Taylor knew nothing of the real dimensions in Egyptian cubits.
