For actual mate selection, certainly. In the same way the prettiest male bower-bird doesn't always get the female, the one who stocks the love nest with the most morsels is also a strong contender...

But your premise would mean when you look at some non-famous persons picture, before you could make an "attractive or not attractive" judgement, you would need to know their profession, income, and investment portfolio size...

And that just isn't so.

I remember the Natty G had a picture of an Afghan woman on the cover with the most stunning hazel-blue eyes years back, men went nuts.

Natty-G had the most astounding response of men who wanted to help her out, etc. Somewhere I've got a link that had her hitting on 5 of the golden ratios, PLUS those amazing eyes, plus she looked somewhat scared and in need of protection. (always a genetic TWANG in men).
