The Egyptian counting system is actually referred to as a decimal system,

If I am not mistaken they were using the same system with Peruvian Quipu-strings (Caral) complete with the "null" about the same time as Narmer was making exorbitant claims for his tally of cattle and goats (Narmer macehead about 3000 BC).
