Modern exploration of the Bent pyramid did not begin until after the end of the Second World War, when Abdulsalam M. Hussein excavated the pyramid from 1946 to 1949; his untimely death in the summer of 1949 meant that the work on the pyramid complex was undertaken by Ahmed Fakhry, who commenced excavations in March1951. Fakhry’s first main discovery was the small offering temple on the pyramids east side; also in this first season he had managed to clear some 70m of the causeway.
