Don't think this is the case, l feel Egyptology is too top heavy in those who favour the study of humanitie's.
Most of the resources are given over to religious studies, epigraphic studies etc; important as these areas are, other areas such as architecture and engineering are poorly adressed. One Egyptologist l spoke too, told me his institution doesn't even teach architecture anymore.
I saw a documentary recently where some Egyptologist was shifting through debris for hours to find three small fragments of text; fair enough, but wouldn't it be nice to see such effort spent on exploring the buildings and not just the texts.
Institutions need to diversify and invest more on the architecture and associated engineering problems. Slim back a bit on humanities and maybe employ some architects and engineer's; otherwise we will be waiting another century before the Bent pyramid gets explored.
