Hi,on pg139 l suggested that they might want to replicate the modifications on the lower chamber to the upper. For aesthetic reasons they may wish to have the chambers similar. The p3 floor extension would reduce the taller ceiling in the upper chamber; the walls in the lower chamber are higher than the upper at 6.06m, the top of p3 massif is 6.54m, maybe they wished the chambers to be similar, who knows.
We can only speculate pending a full forensic analysis of this structure. Where the chamber walls have been uncovered by the removal of the massif they appear in good condition, though a sizeable amount is still covered by the massif.
