"Almost 4,000 years ago, laborers sent by the Egyptian Pharaoh toiled to extract highly prized turquoise from quarries deep in the Sinai desert. In studying the numerous inscriptions they left behind, Hebrew University of Jerusalem professor Orly Goldwasser believes that something extraordinary took place here, and that illiterate Canaanite laborers were responsible for one of the most significant inventions in human history."
