Has it ever been posited that the source of the AE standard and royal cubit is not so much the human finger/palm but the phanlanges within our hands?

The phalangeal formula for the human hand is as follows: 2-3-3-3-3 (x2 hands) = 28 (AE Royal cubit)

And without the thumb count: = 3-3-3-3 (x2 hands) = 24 (AE standard cubit).

Any thoughts?
