Prof I E S Edwards refers to the pyramid as "The Castle of Eternity" (The Pyramids of Egypt 1979: 292), and pharaonic tombs in general as having this name.
Elsewhere I have seen written: "The architectural hieroglyphic of the pyramid, which literally meant "the castle of eternity""
'mr' is the word pronounced for pyramid.
Does anyone know of references to this definition as The Castle of Eternity?

On a more general but related note. During my recent trip to Egypt I visited several of the West bank temples - the Ramesseum and Medinet Habu in Luxor, temple of Seti 1 and Ramesses II in Abydos, and Dendera's temple of the Ptolemaic period.
All of these had entrance ways with the god Heh and the rods on which he counts the years of the eternal pharaonic rule.
They were the "Houses of Millions of Years", and were the memorial temples of the Pharaohs.
As such, I now understand, they were quite distinct from the East bank temples.
On a final note, the Great Temple of Abydos, that of Seti I, has undoubtedly the finest artwork I have seen from ancient Egypt. It was truly impressive.
