Scotland in Saqqara – the latest news

Affectionately known as Scotland's own Indiana Jones, Ian updates us on the progress of his team's explorations under the sands at Saqqara, one of Egypt's longest-lived sites.

Cost per talk
Cost of each talk is £2 for members of Egyptology Scotland and £4 for non-members. Annual subscription fee for the 2007/08 programme is £12 for adults and £8 for under-16s.

Since 1990, Edinburgh-born Ian Mathieson has been co-director of the Saqqara Geophysical Survey Project. With a background in civil engineering and surveying, Ian has brought his expertise to the Saqqara plateau, creating archaeological and geophysical maps of the many monuments still submerged beneath the sands.

This season, Ian and his team have been given permission to do some digging. Will Ian and his team finally discover the lost tomb of King Djoser’s master-architect, Imhotep? Fingers crossed!
