They also used grids other than 3x4. One of my favourites is at Giza (4th dyn) and was referenced by Petrie. It seems to be influenced by a typical Egyptian doubling system,

ie, 8 x 11¼ = 90, or 9 x 10 = 90, and even 15 x 6 = 90.

The upshot of this is that it reveals units of measure we are not familiar with ..... and for that reason has largely been overlooked.
