The quite natural tendency to place themselves as high on this social ladder as possible?
Think of human nature today, a bridge collapses, or any other disaster, and our first response is "Some one should make sure it never happens again?". Same thing happened in the past, invariably when someone took responsibility they also took control.
This type of HS inborn need to structure is far more common than the few examples of decentralized HG that survived (Inuit, Australian aborigines).
I think Occam's Razor applies, there is no need for an unrecorded Egyptian Genghis Khan...
