I'm not trying to diminish the value of the night sky... only trying to put the day sky and the other elements of Egyptian mythology, cosmology and cosmography on an equal plateau. Too often we find these other areas completely ignored (or at least relegated to the insignificant), and this hasn't helped the understanding of the Old Kingdom progress much at all in the last 30 years.
The point is, if the answers to the questions are not to be found evidenced in the stars, then one should not be afraid to look elsewhere in Egyptian mythology for the answer. Currently I see a lot of "Well, we KNOW it's all about stars, but there's no evidence of a stellar nature, so let's just accept it as a postulate and move on..." I don't see where this way of analyzing Egyptian spirituality helps much.
