These types of tools are making the old exploratory digs as obsolete as MRIs made "exploratory" surgery. In the right hands they should allow pinpoint archaeology. In the wrong hands, pinpoint pillaging of archaeological sites.

It's not actually that they are all that new, but becoming more and more mandatory vs. the Osmangic's Bosnian Disney World "lets dig everything in sight up and see what we find" approach.

I do think noninvasive archaeology is as desirable as noninvasive presurgery though.
