[sorry to post another post so soon - I am mid-research and this came up]

There was a central part of the Egyptian 'nome' system of dividing the Nile territory into separate regions each with a capital that was considered somewhat separate to the rest, and this was called the "Heptanomis" - the 7 Nomes.

It was roughly from Memphis and Giza etc up to the Thebaid [Luxor], and corresponded approximately to 'Middle Egypt'.

How early was this idea of this separate important 7 Nomes thought up?

I would like to confirm it was/probably present in the Old Kingdom or not?

Can anyone confirm this?
