Why should I ask Graham? So far I haven't made a nickel of academia.edu. OTOH I've been making a trickle of cash in my Kindle and Lulu publishing endeavors. I've still got a long way to go until I can buy a Scanning Electron Microscope to take my research to the next level.

ROTFL. ALL educational institutions, no matter how piously they might deny it, or however much legal mumbo jumbo they cover it up with as a 'non-profit' or 'not for profit' enterprise they, are still for profit enterprises you can't keep the doors open with good intentions.
