I had an immediate family member that worked for Lockheed on that project. The story is far more complicated than the media show.
But yes... confetti...
Frankly, we need the base on the moon to make Marrs work, but we won't get that because of the profit question - private companies won't get us there.
But when the Chinese-Russian task force gets aimed at the moon and starts squawking about self-sufficiency... then it'll be the 1960's space race all over again ;0 although that assumes that their economy will survive...
Face it -- America is a nation of rebels ;0 The people won't move until they see it as a competition, and you have to have the people moving before the frontier of space can open up for sizeable profits. That's regardless of technology.
