Guys, there’s some history here you should know about. PZ Myers has had a hate on for EP for some time, for reasons that appear to be more political than scientific. This article is more temperately written than most of his, and presents a veneer of PZ knowing what he’s talking about, but he is in fact grossly misrepresenting an entire field of respectable and exciting scientific research. Scroll down to Comment #144, a detailed critique of Myers’ post by someone who is familiar with the literature, and active in EP research.

Bernard is absolutely correct that the popular media get things wrong, and their reports on EP studies should be viewed with caution; but there is a bouncing baby in the bathwater that PZ Myers and his ilk are so keen to throw out.
