Remembering the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake
[www.npr.org]

"Talk of the Nation ,October 10, 2005 ·
In A Crack in the Edge of The World,
author Simon Winchester studies the
disaster of the San Francisco earthquake
and how it led to Chinese immigration
and the rise of the Pentecostal movement"

He also discusses how pictures of San Francisco were retouched
and doctored and actual death toll falsified to coverup the
magnitude of the earthquake and the damage it did. The extent
that the resulting fire destroyed San Francisco was greatly
exaggerated in order hide the degree that the 1906 earthquake
actually leveled San Francisco.

1906 San Fran Quake Killed Thousands, Not Hundreds
by Neal Conan [www.npr.org]

"Talk of the Nation ,January 26, 2005 ·
San Francisco's County board has moved
to correct a mistake that dates from
almost 100 years ago, as it restates
the death toll resulting from a 1906
earthquake at nearly 3,400 people --
almost 7 times the initial figures.
At the time, official estimates were
that less than 500 people had died."
