Interestingly no mention (in the news release anyway) of methane hydrate releases which I thought were still considered a major contributory factor behind the climatic changes that caused the PT extinction (as per Micheal Benton When Life Nearly Died). So not clear whether the research behind this paper included this possibilty or was based solely on the assumption that volcanic gases were responsible?
