Great articles, Paul. I recall being taught about how the last Cascadia quake had a date put on it by using scientific data, native lore as well as Japanese recordings of a tsunami that struck. Very interesting to read how they were sourced as being fighting deities and also shows just how important these oral histories can be. Yes, their meaning could've been altered or they could be making mythical explanations for geological/climatological activities--but they are still important.

I seem to remember another geological event being described by native americans--Mt. Mazama?
