Not very reassuring, especially the part - 'but we feel that the shuttle is safe' -...

Gut instinct can get you a long way....but...

I don't think they should quit tho - unfortunate situation but that's what they train for.

What's needed is a much simpler vehicle wrt mechanics. Keep the electronics, get rid of the tiles and wings and wheels and external tanks.
