One big issue that I hope is corrected is this launch vehicle we now use. Knowing NASA, they will probably replace the shuttle with a shuttle, and being vertical launch, set the space program back another 3 decades. It is way past time for scientists to 'get over' vertical VTO, and move ahead to horizontal HTO vehicles. Lifting capability is far greater, safety will be near to, if not as, common air travel, with the real added bonus of powered flight after re-entry, landing at any base or airport capable of Concorde, or transoceanic airliners.
