Fascinating "ridiculous" statement, specially the "pregnant" part!
For example, everyone knows that electricity will always try to find the shortest "resistance' path to the ground. So that may look complex, random or arbitrary to the untrained observers but it still follows this "simplest way" energy transfer rule...
