The idea is to be to give the private sector the ability to charge money for things rather than letting people get the information for free from federal sources. The fact that the main company set to benefit from this is in this particular senators state is surely not related
And the fact that these companies should still get the information for free but not the general public makes lots of sense.
It all seems to be based on "the premise that the federal government should not do what the private sector is capable of doing." Thats one damn broad remit for the public sector
