Dear Friends,

A picture showing the damage sustained by the submarine, which hit
an undersea mountain can seen online in "Science and Society:
Submarine hits unmapped mountain" March 2005 Geotimes at;

and

As the picture shows, this was ++not++ the undersea
equivalent of a fender bender. The picture shows extensive damage
to the front of the submarine. No only is the hull breached in
its front, but immediately in back of the broken nose, the hull
is buckled to the point of producing a "hump" can be seen in it.
It is quite obvious that these submarines are built to take a
horrenous licking and keep on ticking.

The Geotimes home page is at:

Eventually, this article and picture will transferred to the Geotimes
archives at:

Yours,

Paul
