Just because we cannot control the event doesn't mean we cannot have a significant influence on impact of the event on our lives.

It seems to me this is the single greatest threat to humanity right now... greater than terrorism, religious zealots, tsunamis, asteroids, or global warming. And yet we do almost nothing currently to protect our species against this kind of disaster.

Until we get our priorities straight, we may not deserve to survive.
